Cork Cognitive Therapy is a dedicated Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic (CBT) practice operating to the highest international evidenced based standards and protocols.

Our Services

Anxiety

Anxiety is something we all recognise at times in our life. When anxiety
becomes chronic it interferes with our health, our relationships, and our life opportunities. If
you worry too much, have panic, OCD or social anxiety, CBT can significantly help.

Depression

Life is more rewarding when we can manage our moods, our thoughts and engage the world with energy. CBT is the therapy of choice for navigating out of these dark places with the objective of developing a sustainable plan to stay well.

Insomnia

Quality sleep is vital for health and involves relaxing the mind and the body.
It’s much easier to manage life when we are rested and energised, and Cork Cognitive Therapy can help recognize the underlying issues and structure an approach to better sleep.

Self Esteem

We are the sum of our experiences in the world and sometimes this can lead us to the wrong conclusion that we are not good enough. Let us help you restore your value
so that we can think positively about ourselves and engage the world with choice and power.

Confidence & Assertiveness

Confidence and assertiveness naturally occur when we get stronger from doing difficult things. At Cork Cognitive Therapy we can show you how to achieve this in an easy practical way that allows you to maintain personal boundaries and empower yourself.

Emotional Regulation

Feeling good when the world is kind to us is easy, but we should also have an ability to manage ourselves when we experience difficulties. The power should come from within and at Cork Cognitive Therapy we will show you how to achieve this.

Anger Management

Anger is a symptom of an emotion that is not being processed properly. At Cork
Cognitive Therapy we deal with the underlying issues to enable a real world solution that reflects better relationships, mood and quality of life.

Stressful Life Events

The stress we experience depends on the demands of our life as well as our ability to cope. Reducing the negative and increasing the coping potential crafts a new recipe for how to live well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes is the short answer. CBT helps us manage our negative thoughts, control our overwhelming emotions, and deal with real-world problems in an effective way, enabling confidence in our ability to cope with the challenges of the world. We all need this!

The first session is about assessment, figuring out what the problem is, measuring it (if possible), and setting out a structured plan that will lead us to an easy, sustainable solution. After the first session, you should feel that you have met someone whom you can engage with, and what the therapist says should resonate with your experience.

Each session starts with a review and will involve a continuation of a structured approach towards your needs and goals. The plan is flexible, allowing room to deal with life issues that might intrude or any blockages that may present.

CBT is a relatively fast therapy, but the actual number of sessions depends on many factors such as our history, awareness, the type of problem(s), and how severe they are. Generally, people do 8 to 10 sessions.

Approach it with an open mind and a sense of curiosity. Some of the ideas that will be presented to you while not complicated will be new and require a degree of processing. Be organised in your approach, bring a notebook to the sessions, and ask questions. Both of us are necessary to solve the problem so we engage as partners.

Confidentiality is extremely important and as far as possible we will strive to protect and maintain it. Your will be asked to consent to a confidentiality agreement which will be explained in the first session.
